iGATE's Hiring Spree in India

Significant growth rate achieved by a couple of existing customers has motivated Integrated software and services company, iGATE Global Solutions to scale up its Chennai operations by going on a hiring spree of about 350-professionals during the course of 2006.

For the first time, iGATE is looking at hiring science graduates from Chennai in a big way. And, of the 350-IT professionals to be hired in Chennai, about 150 will be science graduates. Overall, it expects to hire about 200-science graduates over the next 12-months.

V Viswanathan, Asst Vice President - IT Solutions, iGATE, told Business Standard his company was looking at hiring science graduates (mathematics, chemistry and MS information technology) with high analytical ability and would expend a considerable outlay of investment in training them. Apart from the cost effectiveness of hiring science graduates, he said his company is impressed by the loyalty and passion displayed by these graduates.

Only last year, iGATE announced plans to make its Chennai operations a "Centre of excellence for J2EE and .NET", in order to focus on developing cutting edge applications for the manufacturing vertical. "We have made significant progress since last year. The Chennai operations develop new architecture, reusable components and other solutions in J2EEE and .NET segments." confirmed Viswanathan.

IGATE clients to be serviced out of its Chennai facility include a US-based Fortune 1000 client in the banking, financial services and insurance sector, a Fortune 50 Global Corporation, including a European Fortune 1000 client in the field of insurance. Its Chennai centre has also been responsible for developing new architecture for a leading media group.

With a 100,000-sq. ft. facility in Chennai, iGATE added an additional 35,000-sq. ft. to it last year. Having invested Rs. 60-crore in Chennai, this facility has capacity for accommodating a 1000-people, and is the second largest iGATE facility in India. Currently, it employs 650-professionals, including the 350 it added last year.

Apart from Chennai, iGATE has operations in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Noida. Furthermore, iGATE in Bangalore is currently in the midst of building Phase III of its campus (1000-people facility) at Whitefield (Bangalore) with an investment of Rs. 25-crore, which should be operational in the first quarter of fiscal year 2007.

With a global employee strength of over 4800-people, over 70% of them work out of its off-shore facilities in India . As a result of the cost effective, high quality performance of its Indian operations, iGATE for the year ended March 31, 2005 reported revenues of Rs. 580-crore and a net profit of Rs. 21-crore.

Outsourcing: Cracking India, Superficial Splits

National Association of Software & Service Companies (NASSCOM, India's IT lobby) and McKinsey Consulting after conducting a study on India's immensely profitable Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry have a blunt message to impart. Their analysts predict, unless India addresses some of the deep-seated problems underlying the two sectors, it is but a forgone conclusion that it will find it difficult to maintain its position as the most favoured destination for IT / BPO off-shoring / outsourcing. After 5-years of prosperity, the next few years hold major challenges for the two sectors, urgent challenges that need to be addressed 'quickly and determinedly' if the sub-continent wishes to retain a leading share of the 'advantageous global opportunities' that come by way of off-shoring / outsourcing.

Taking into account the global IT environment, off-shoring / outsourcing IT / IT enabled services (ITES) to India still has great potential, as the study indicates, but it is not going to be an easy piece of cake for Indian IT / ITES to sustain the scorching pace, as previously thought. Talent shortage, deficiencies in infrastructure, external political problems, such as, a brutally relentless backlash from North American and European markets that face a future of severe job losses, are some of the significant issues that will challenge the sub-continent according to the study report.

And, the light at the end of the tunnel, the good news according to Noshir Kaka, co-author of the McKinsey report is: The country "has maintained India's leadership position in the global off-shoring / outsourcing IT and BPO industries over the years ... [it] can still grow at 25% a year, and corner about US $60-billion of global off-shoring / outsourcing business by March 2010. But, that's not going to be easy anymore. There are a number of challenges. If Indian IT does not act immediately on them, yes there is a probability of that target not being achieved."

In just five years, India's IT / BPO sectors that earn entire revenues from providing off-shoring / outsourcing services have established themselves as major economic growth engines. From $4-billion in 2000 to approximately $17-billion in 2005, they account for 6% of the increase in the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) within the brief span of half a decade. As well, the two sectors have accounted for 95% of the growth in foreign exchange inflows in to the country associated with service industries. While, India's total service exports grew by 60% from $16-billion in 2000 to $25-billion in 2004, IT / BPO off-shoring / outsourcing exports have tripled in the 5-years they have been in business.

Further, the combined NASSCOM, McKinsey report entitled: "Extending India's Leadership of the Global IT and BPO Industries" states: "But now India's offshore industries have to overcome the challenges to continue their heady growth and sustain their share relative to other competing countries." Dividing Indian IT into two distinct categories i.e. the older off-shored / outsourced IT services and the newer BPO or back-office off-shoring / outsourcing industry, the report states the challenges faced by the two are highly contradictory. While, the IT-sector faces a demand-led limitation, the BPO sector is challenged with a supply-led restriction.

Quoting Noshir Kaka: "On the IT side the real question is around the demand and customer maturity in terms of taking IT outsourcing and off-shoring to the next level because there are significant organizational challenges and other hurdles that companies need to overcome when they begin off-shoring to the next wave."

With global IT off-shoring / outsourcing beginning to experience a slow-down due to diminishing growth in demand as global companies are realising changing business processes to oblige an off-shore work force is not only difficult and time-consuming, it produces lower savings than expected, as well. According to Noshir Kaka, this is due to off-shoring / outsourcing of IT processes taking anywhere from a year or two to stabilise performance and escalate work volume resulting in slow monetary gains for outsourcing firms.

And, as labour union bosses and vote seeking politicians vehemently oppose the off-shoring / outsourcing trend, European and American firms are becoming increasingly cautious about sending jobs to India. Case in point, both the 2004 US presidential campaign and the recent European Union constitution referendum, where the bogeyman of rising unemployment was jobs being off-shored / outsourced, a major bone of contention. Or, as Noshir Kaka says: "There are, also, concerns about service quality and security in the wake of several well-publicized security breaches, and these put together are making many companies think twice before moving functions offshore."

More importantly, according to McKinsey Consulting, despite an adequate talent pool to draw on, the Indian BPO sector is confronted with potential shortage of a skilled work force within a decade or so. On the other hand, NASSCOM projections predict India's IT / BPO to increase from 700,000 to 2.3-million by the year 2010. But, McKinsey's Jayant Sinha is of the opinion: "Yet, the problem is that this talent pool is largely unsuitable."

With only 25% of India's technical graduates and 10 to 15% of general college graduates suitable for off-shore / outsourced IT / BPO industries, there is a potential shortfall of nearly half a million qualified employees, 70% of which will be employed in the BPO sector. The report predicts that unless India improves the quality and skills of its work force, competition for off-shoring / outsourcing contracts will intensify as other countries enter the market and demand a bigger share of the spoils.

That alone is not the only challenge to face the country, India has to ramp up improvement of the infrastructure to meet the increasing needs of the IT industry, deliver power 24 x 7, provide a streamlined public transportation system, and improve international connectivity and business infrastructure i.e. office /

Mens Clothing Kurta Pajama Long Sleeve Cotton Dress India Fashion Size M(gkp344)

Mens Clothing Kurta Pajama Long Sleeve Cotton Dress India Fashion Size M(gkp344)
Mens Clothing kurta pajama is a gift to the Indian traditional wear by the great Mughals. In their custom, both men and women enjoyed kurtas and pajamas cut in long flowing panels. These elaborately embroidered kurtas with real gold and silver threads, weighed between 5 to 10 kilograms. With the change in time and fashion, modifications were made according to the comfort and affordability of people. Now the kurta pajama is more of a mans informal relaxing wear. Though the source of inspiration remains the same old Mughal fashion, many new changes are seen in todays style of Kurta pajamas.

Among men, the most commonly worn kurtas are the coarse handloom kurta with high Chinese collar. They are either plain woven or the designs are woven in different colors. Comfort and easy wearing quality has made the kurta pajama universally popular. They are worn in winters as well as summers. The material for the summer and winter kurta changes suiting the weather conditions. Summer welcomes crisp and light cottons, while winter gives way to all heavy and thick materials. However, the handloom kurtas are worn in both summer and winter. The style popular among mens kurtas is the straight cut with side pockets.

The prints commonly seen on this apparel in summers are block print and tie and dye of Rajasthan and Gujarat. These kurta pajama sets from Rajasthan and Gujarat come in not only traditional block printing and tie and dye but also with rich embroidery and glittering mirror work. The chikan hand embroidery of Lucknow is also very popular for its traditional rich look and values. These are usually made in pure cotton as they are worn mainly in summer. The winter Kurtas are in silk, satin, and other thick fabric.

Sir Petrie the Original Indiana Jones?

The exhibit of "Excavating Egypt" will be presented at the Flint Institute in Flint, Michigan through January, 2007. The show will display over 200 of the most important finds of archaeologist Sir William Petrie. The significance of the show is in more than just the objects on display but is rather a testament to the man behind the findings and the new approaches he brought to his chosen field.

Ancient Egyptian art and antiquities has long since been the subject of many non-fiction books, novels, movies, and museum exhibits. When Sir William Petrie began his first excavation, would he have ever imagined that decades later, his findings would be known worldwide? Nor would he have ever imagined that his life would be the basis of the "Indiana Jones" adventure movies? Making an impact on the art world and the movie industry is no small feat. Yet, this serious and determined British archaeologist and Egyptologist accomplished more than even he might have thought possible.

William Matthew Flinders Petrie was born in Charlton, Kent in 1853. His father was a surveyor and civil engineer, and his mother was interested in fossils and other scientific topics. Both parents encouraged young William to pursue interests that would eventually flourish into a successful career. It is interesting that due to ill health he was educated at home and did not receive any formal schooling.

As a child, he was fascinated by and interested in measuring things. He measured buildings, churches, and even ruins such as Stonehenge. Because his father was a surveyor, William learned about the importance of accuracy in measurements. When he was thirteen years old, he declared that he would one day visit the pyramids. He was, at the time, inspired from reading, Our Inheritance in the Great Pyramids by Piazzi Smyth.

As a young adult William began a career as a surveyor and continued his study of Stonehenge. This resulted in his book, Stonehenge: Plans, Description, and Theories that was published in 1880.

At only 24 years of age Petrie began his forty-year career of exploration and excavation of Egypt and the Middle East. He became enamored with Egyptian culture, art, language and archaeology. Sir Petrie built up a reputation as an innovator in excavation because of the scientific methods that he used. He examined every bit of soil and developed a very meticulous method for sorting and labeling findings.

During his forty years in the Middle East he was involved in the study and excavation of over 30 sites. It was not uncommon to spend two or three years at one site. It was his thoroughness that led to the development of a dating method from studying pottery fragments found at the sites. The historical chronology was developed from studying the different styles of pottery through the ages. Petrie was quoted as saying, "I believe the true line of research lies in the noting and comparison of the smallest details." This simple approach became the foundation of his methodology.

During his years of fieldwork he became a prolific writer. He authored more than 100 books and 900 articles. Sir Petrie became the first Professor of Egyptian Archaeology at London's University College, but he continued to do fieldwork in Egypt and even in Palestine for a brief period. In 1904 he published "Methods and Aims of Archaeology" which became one of his most important endeavors. He came to be referred to as the "Father of Egyptian Archaeology," and he was responsible for training some of the up and coming archaeologists of his day.

In 1913 Sir Petrie's unique collection of Egyptian antiquities were sold to University College. It is one of the largest collections other than the ones in Egypt, and it is one of the most unusual because the contents were mostly ordinary daily life objects. In 1923 Petrie was knighted for his services in his chosen field. Later in life he moved to Palestine where he continued to excavate even in his senior years. He lived in Jerusalem until he died in 1942. As a part of his final request Petrie donated his head to the College of Surgeons of London. However, due to the war going on, his head was lost in transport to London. Eventually his body, sans head, was laid to rest in the Protestant Cemetery on Mt. Zion.

Sir Petrie's life was an adventure to the end and beyond. It is no wonder that his accomplishments inspired the Hollywood writers to develop the Indian Jones hero. Of course, they romanticized the toil and labors that filled the life of Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, but they also captured the excitement that must have motivated him to follow his dreams with the ambition and dedication that was the essence of his being.

Chants Of India: Ravi Shankar; George Harrison

Chants Of India: Ravi Shankar; George Harrison
Mantram is Ravi Shankar's effort to set Sanskrit chants from ancient Hindu scriptures to music, and the result is a captivating mix of chant and music. Produced by George Harrison, this collection of mantras and prayers from the Vedas, Upanishads, and other scriptures powerfully transports the listener to a place of peace where it's possible to be one with the universe. It's as if a heavy, enveloping cloak of serenity falls from the dark, floating sounds of cello opening the CD. Shankar employs flute, tamboura, harp, and other instruments to accent the mighty "Om" thread that weaves itself through the cloth of this album, bringing together deep, ominous voices with delicate, earthly instruments. One looking for extensive Shankar sitar might be disappointed, but the beauty of this artist's creativity and spiritual vision sweeps one away into a larger, more meaningful listening experience. Highly recommended. --Karen Karleski

Parasol Sun Umbrella for Girls, Colorful Applique Embroidery, Unique Handmade Gift for Her. Among the traditional textiles of India, the art of appliqué work occupies a distinguished place. According to the Websters dictionary, applique is a decoration or trimming made of one material attached by sewing, gluing, etc. to another. In India, appliqué art is widely prevalent in the western states, especially in Gujarat and Rajasthan, and in the eastern coast of Orissa. Applique Work is a technique by which the decorative effect is obtained by superposing patches of colored fabrics on a basic fabric, the edges of the patches being sewn in some form of stitching. It is distinct from what is known as patch work in which small pieces of cut fabrics are usually joined side by side to make a large piece of fabric or for repairing a damaged fabric. The base cloth is usually colored. Some of the specially prepared motifs have exclusive embroidery work and some have mirror work. It is believed that applique work made its way into western India either from Europe or Arabia in the Middle East through trade contacts. In Orissa, applique work is an inseparable part of the temple tradition, and its main centre of production is in and around Pippli, a small town near Bhubaneswar. Traditionally, the applique work of Orissa is used as canopies during the annual Chariot Festival at Puri to protect the chariots of Lord Jagannath (in this context, the Lord of the Universe), Balabhadra and Subhadra (Lord Jagannaths brother and sister, respectively. In recent decades, the appliques of Orissa in the form of beautiful animals, birds, flowers, leaves and other decorative motifs have been used as household lampshades, garden umbrellas and even handbags. Enjoy these lovely applique embroidered sun umbrellas handcrafted by the very artistic craftsmen of Orissa. Please do not use them during rains. We also have applique garden umbrellas.

Home loans in India- support pillar to property buyers

There has been a remarkable transformation in the earnings and working atmosphere of Indian couples. Incidentally those who are working in cities and are renting a house can easily observe that the amount they are paying every month in order to rent a house can be very well used in terms of EMIs while paying off a house loan!!

Today because of the privatization of housing finance institutions a major change has been observed in terms of the decrease in the interest rate of the loan taken and apart from that the procedure to apply for the loan has been remarkably easier. Home loans are available to both Indians and NRI customers for different purposes as:

For purchase of a plot
For purchase of a new home
For renovation of your house
Against mortgage of property

These home loans are available on different interest rate and the documentation required is the proof of your income. In fact some of the companies sanction the home loans without having identified the property for which you want to get the loan. Apart from this a number of other advantages like waiving off of processing fee, free accident insurance and free home insurance are some of the add-ons one can get through these home loans.

Similarly home equity loans are available for different purposes in one's life as education, marriage expenses, medical expenses etc. These home equity loans are actually given on the basis of the current value of the property minus the amount one owes on that property. Home equity loans are the best way to arrange for the money at times as one gets the best amount for his/her property while he takes a home equity loan.

These loans are available on different interest rates depending on the repayment tenure and the amount of loan taken. In most of the cases it is 1% of the amount of loan taken plus applicable taxes and cess. Home loans because of the diversity and their use for the customers are the available source of finance to the people today.

As people are getting affordable housing loans the market of real estate is on a boom today. Apart from that a healthy competition between all the banks and housing loan institutions can be observed which is ultimately helping those who seek to have a home loan very soon.

A Concise History of Modern India (Cambridge Concise Histories)

A Concise History of Modern India (Cambridge Concise Histories)
In a second edition of their successful Concise History of Modern India, Barbara Metcalf and Thomas Metcalf explore India's modern history afresh and update the events of the last decade. These include the takeover of Congress from the seemingly entrenched Hindu nationalist party in 2004, India's huge advances in technology and the country's new role as a major player in world affairs. From the days of the Mughals, through the British Empire, and into Independence, the country has been transformed by its institutional structures. It is these institutions which have helped bring about the social, cultural and economic changes that have taken place over the last half century and paved the way for the modern success story. Despite these advances, poverty, social inequality and religious division still fester. In response to these dilemmas, the book grapples with questions of caste and religious identity, and the nature of the Indian nation.

From the rich history of its palaces to the gorgeous landscaped gardens of the luxury hotels to the serenity of the floating palace on Ramgarh Lake...everywhere you look there is pink...the colour of romance.

Jaipur is the throbbing, vibrant capital city of the colourful state of Rajasthan where the regal ambience of yesteryear is still felt throughout the city's numerous carved arches and once-bejewelled fortress walls. Enter this mystical city through a narrow, cobbled street where street vendors selling everything from sweetmeats to silver trinkets and leather slippers call out to passing trade. Pass the huge hill on the right with its stunning royal residence where decorated elephants obediently transport delighted tourists to the top for its amazing vistas of the city spread out below. Follow the winding road until you begin to see the glittering lights of the city's numerous palaces begin to emerge on the left hand side across the glistening waters of the Ramgarh Lake. Stop to take pictures or simply gaze in stunned silence at the beauty of the floating palace of Ramgarh - perfectly illuminated by golden lights strategically placed on all four corners of the palace.

And then comes the main city...surprisingly wide, clean roads with some of the most well known brand names dotted on each side...from the newly opened Hilton Trident to the Sheraton and Le Meridien...you will find a massive choice of premium accommodation in Jaipur. Each hotel has retained the city's former glory and royal demeanour and the service excels itself. Just remember to book your stay well in advance to avoid disappointment, as it is busy year round in this city of royal romance. Some of the most highly recommended hotels to stay in whilst visiting Jaipur include the Taj Group's Rambagh Palace and the Jai Mahal Palace Hotel. The opulence of both hotels will literally take your breath away and many a wedding takes place in the perfectly landscaped grounds of these hotels with their backdrop of lush palms and fountains.

A quick tip: whether staying at the Rambagh Palace or not, do take time to enjoy the delicious al-fresco breakfast buffet where the smart Jodhpur & waistcoat clad staff will treat you like royalty. With eggs made to order and succulent sausages and bacon following plates of the freshest, sweetest fruits, the plump muffins and Danish pastries are hard to refuse especially when accompanied with a choice of teas, coffee and piping hot chocolate. And all served in the finest china and silver.

Drive further down the main boulevards of Jaipur city and you come to a set of intricately carved arches, which divide the Old City from the New City. Once through the arches, your senses are immediately assaulted by the noisy onslaught of rickshaws, buffalo carts, taxis, bicycles, scooters, elephants and cars all jostling for space on the same road. Whistle blowing policemen, horn blowing cars, mooing cows and convincing street peddlars create a melodious harmony of ethnic sounds, which to the first time visitor to Jaipur, can be quite startling!

In addition to booking your flights and accommodation, we can also arrange:

Meet & Greet at Airport

Assistance of a Wedding Planner

Wedding Day schedule

A beauty treatment for the bride (manicure /pedicure /hair styling etc)

A professional wedding photographer to record memories of your special day

Assistance with all legal paperwork

With the romantic hues of pink all round you, this romantic city of Jaipur never fails to satisfy all your touristic senses. It is no wonder then that Jaipur has fast become one of the most popular places on earth in which to tie the knot? Yes, more and more couples are choosing to get married Maharajah-style at one of the opulent palaces in a style reminiscent of the British Raj. EVENING SHAWL (BEADED SHAWL) IN 8 COLORS

EVENING SHAWL (BEADED SHAWL) IN 8 COLORS
Unfazed by the scientific age, pashmina shawls are hand spun the same way it has been done for centuries. The hairs are gathered from the Himalayan goat called Hircus, which lives at high altitudes, 12 to 14000 feet in the mountains. The Pashmina is gathered by hand, stored and combed by nomadic herders. The threads are hand woven on handlooms over a silk wrap, which gives the fabric resilience. Once the fabric is loomed, each piece is hand dyed in open vats. Afterwards it is given to the different craftsmen for hand-embroidery, beading and /or printing. They are very soft and luxurious in feel. These shawls are woven from the best quality of Cashmere Pashmina and Silk. These shawls can be worn as a wrap or a scarf. The size is 80 inches long and 28 inches wide and each shawl is finished with 2 or 2.5 inches long tassels. The fabric comprises of approximately 70% Cashmere Pashmina and 30% Silk. The combination of Cashmere and Silk makes the fabric versatile and resonating with color. The shawls are hand loomed in Nepal and India and are offered in a wide selection of vibrant colors. We recommend dry cleaning.

India and China in software outsourcing

Before few years, when some American companies opened their offices in china for software outsourcing and hired Chinese programmers for offshore software development, initial response from their prospective clients was not good. At that time, all western companies were looking for software outsourcing to India. Because, India was very successful in offshore software development and people were very much satisfied with Indian programmers for their coding related work.

But with the number of US companies increasing their operations in India, wages in India are going high. It has also increased manpower turnover and in turn delivery problems. Because of which, clients are seeking for alternatives like china, Philippines, Russia, Poland, Romania etc. In a survey by management consulting company DiamondCluster, in 2004 not a single company mentioned that they are outsourcing software development to China. But in the year 2005, 6% companies mentioned they are in china. Companies which are expected to open software outsourcing operations in China have risen from 8% to 40% in just one year. Bigger attraction for china is, its reliable infrastructure and skilled workers. Although wages in developed cities like Shanghai have gone up, overall they have remained lower then India's. But biggest obstacle in their path is deficiencies in English fluency unlike India.

On the other hand, many Indian companies have started their operations in China. Infosys is planning to have office near to Shanghai. Accenture is also looking at china. And cost of a development center in china is 25% lower then cost of Indian development center. Although, it is considered that, India will move up in the ladder and handle more consulting work.
